To remove any unwanted energy, leave your mala in moon or sunlight, let it rest under a tree, using sound vibration to clear your crystals such as religion or meditation music.
Metal accents may tarnish due to its exposure to air and natural oils. If preferred, a polishing cloth can be used to restore their shine.
